Donut Miss Our 8 National Donut Day Cocktail Pairings

Serious question – does it get any better than fresh donuts lined up in a signature pink cardboard box? It might if you add tequila! Let’s celebrate National Donut Day with our favorite breakfast indulgence from our favorite Donut shop: Chef Santiago’s Donut Bar paired with a few of our top tequila drinks.

8 Pairings To Try on National Donut Day

Caramel Latte Donut + Reposado Tequila

“Delicious” doesn’t even begin to describe the Caramel Latte Donut. It’s a gigantic yeast donut with a sweet caramel latte inspired glaze, drizzled with dulce de leche, and topped with a spoonful of buttercream. Pair this Donut Bar favorite with a simple snifter of Azuñia Reposado. The slight vanilla finish and a hint of butterscotch elevate everything that’s already delicious about this donut.

Blood Orange Donut + Que Bueno cocktail

The Blood Orange Donut bursts with citrus goodness. Chef Santiago tops an oversized donut iced with blood orange glaze and delicate flower design. Pair this donut with our Que Bueno cocktail. The layers of blood orange in the donut lace intricately with the apricot notes of this bubbly cocktail.

Monte Cristo Donut + Bloody Maria Cocktail

Like the original sandwich that inspires it, the Monte Cristo donut sandwich is stuffed with Black Forest ham, Emmenthaler Swiss, and American cheeses, and topped with a generous portion of cran-raspberry compote. A donut as hearty as a breakfast buffet consequently deserves an equally solid drink. Pair this donut with a Bloody Maria, a spicy mix of tomato juice and tequila.

Lemon Pistachio Donut + Happenstance Cocktail

We can’t get enough of the tart lemon glaze and crunchy pistachios that top the Lemon Pistachio donut. This breezy and bright donut tastes a little bit like summer. Pair this donut with the Happenstance cocktail. This green tea drink is equally lively, mixing apricot liqueur, and yuzu with tequila, making it the perfect foil to the tart donut.

Maple Bacon Donut + Butter Añejo Cocktail

The Maple Bacon Donut sets the bar to which all donuts should be measured. Vermont Maple Syrup glaze and house-made candied chopped bacon top this dense donut. Pair this bakery delight with the no-fluff, spirit-forward Butter Añejo cocktail. The donut deserves the depth of tequila, Lustau Palo Cortado Sherry, and orange bitters in this luxurious cocktail.

Raspberry Pistachio Donut + Bird Of Paradise

An ode to a traditional jelly-filled, this over-sized donut is decadently topped with fresh raspberry glaze and salty pistachios. Pair this fruity breakfast treat with the Bird of Paradise cocktail. The layers of mestizo and tequila Añejo, Cruzan Black Strap, Bruto Americano, charcoal and Tamarindo simple syrups, and pineapple add beautiful depth to the berry donut.

Maple Bourbon Donut + Azuñia Black

This golden-brown donut is covered with a maple bourbon glaze and drizzled with Vermont Maple syrup. Pair this velvety donut with a substantially sized snifter of Azuñia Black. The caramel, cocoa, sarsaparilla and spice in our 2-year, extra-aged Añejo is perfection alongside the bourbon donut.

Mexican Hot Chocolate Donut + Zuñiga Espress

We may have saved the best for last. The Mexican Hot Chocolate donut is undoubtedly Donut Bar’s bestseller. Traditional Mexican hot chocolate glaze, toasted mini marshmallows, and cinnamon top a giant donut for a tantalizing breakfast. Pair this donut with the Zuñiga Espress. Start your morning or end your evening with this dynamic duo – a coffee martini and hot chocolate donut.

  • I have just read Donut Bar offers a store pairing with beers. And now, it is pairing with your tequila! I didn’t know donut + alcohol is becoming a trend. How about pairing with baked ones? Baked donuts are not deep-fried so It might attract certain demographics. Baked donuts like like RING and Fonuts have many non-fried options.
