Where did you get the name “Azuñia”?

Our brand name “Azuñia” represents “Azul,” or “Blue,” in Spanish, as in 100% Blue Weber Agave used to make Azuñia. The “Zuñiga” family have been agaveros (agave farmers) for decades and who grow, harvest, and make Azuñia tequila at Rancho Miravalle in Amatitán. Azuñia is a hybrid of these two words.

You can read more about Azuñia and our story on the About page.

What does the term “single-estate” tequila mean?

“Single Estate” by definition, means that all or the majority of the ingredients needed to make a product comes from one area. Azuñia is labeled “single estate” because the agave plants, water, and process all come from and happen in the same area: Rancho Miravalle in Amatitán, Jalisco, Mexico.
Also, the Rancho Miravalle distillery makes only one tequila for export, and that tequila is Azuñia. Azuñia’s NOM is 1426. You can see where any tequila is made and its NOM (Norma Oficial Mexicana or, in English, the Normative Number) using the Tequila Matchmaker website or app.

Why organic? What does it mean? How long does it take?

USDA Certified Organic alcohol is produced from products free of pesticides, fertilizers, and chemicals. All agriculture ingredients are required to be certified organic, and it can take up to 2 years to receive the certification. In short, our entire Azuñia Tequila process from our dedicated agave farm to the production of our tequila is certified organic, given drinkers a smooth pure tequila with authenticity in every sip.

Is Azuñia from the highlands or lowlands? What’s the difference?

Azuñia is made from the finest organic 100% pure Weber Blue Agave harvested by hand from our dedicated fields in the Jalisco lowlands (Tequila Valley). The area offers volcanic soil rich in minerals and nutrients due to its lower Elevation than the highlands. Tequila can vary in flavor and aroma due to the origin of its agave fields. Our agave, combined with our traditional harvesting and fermentation process, equals a pure, smooth tequila with authenticity in every sip.
