National Margarita Day is literally our favorite day of the year! (Until National Tequila Day rolls around this summer, that is.) The history of the margarita may still be a little fuzzy, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the awesomeness that is a margarita. What better way to celebrate National Margarita Day than by sharing our favorite hot spots and recipes to find and make this classic. Let’s get to it, shall we…
Kase, Florida Regional Sales Manager
“Since Azuñia is a truly authentic craft spirit, many ‘Craft Mixologists’ are enthused and excited about using Azuñia as a base spirit in creating craft margaritas. Being that I am a basic spirits guy, my favorite is the Azuñia D’Oro Organic Margarita at The Standard Restaurant in downtown Fort Myers, Florida. It is made with Azuñia Reposado organic tequila, agave nectar, fresh squeezed lime and orange juices, and a splash of soda. To most margarita aficionados, it is the real deal authentic Gold Margarita! And the perfect way to celebrate National Margarita Day!”
Laura, Sales Manager, Austin and San Antonio, Texas
“One of my favorite margarita’s is the Rosita at Alcomar, in Austin, TX. Alcomar is an exceptional restaurant emphasizing the regional ingredients, flavors, and dishes from each of Mexico’s coastlines. The Rosita is made with Azuñia Blanco organic tequila, Cointreau, watermelon, lime, agave nectar, Cholula, and a chile rim. The cocktail is perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious that you typically have to order at least 2 Rositas! Before you know it, everyone at your table is ordering one especially on National Margarita Day!”
Bill, Sales Manager, Texas
“Take a break from the shopping and attractions in Downtown Grapevine, Texas and visit Esparza’s – located just off Main Street since 1985! Abel makes my choice for National Margarita Day worthy cocktail – the Azuñia Organic Skinny Margarita. With only three ingredients, it is creamy, sweet and full-bodied with only about 100 calories. Try it with Azuñia Blanco organic, Azuñia Reposado organic or Añejo tequila and enjoy your margarita on the front patio of this renovated late 1800s home! Come on and join me!”
Dennis M., Sales Manager, Colorado
“One of my favorite margaritas is the Jalapeño Margarita at The Sink in Boulder, Colorado. This simple, craft margarita uses Azuñia Blanco organic tequila, agave nectar, muddled jalapeños, house-made sour mix, and pineapple juice. This sweet and spicy creation is great year round, not just on National Margarita Day. Opened on the Hill in 1923, this Boulder Landmark is a must visit when in Colorado.”
Dennis L., Florida Regional Sales Manager
“My favorite margarita is simply strawberries and basil muddled with Azuñia Reposado organic tequila, agave nectar, and fresh lime, that I sip at home… poolside. When I’m not at the pool, I like watching the boats go by at Doc Fords on Ft. Myers Beach, FL, while drinking the Skinny Margarita. Made with Azuñia Blanco organic tequila, muddled orange, lime and lemon juices, agave nectar, and a spritz of soda. Doc Fords is where I’ll be for National Margarita Day!”
Christopher, Western Regional Sales Manager
“My favorite margarita, the Yorba Margarita, is from El Adobe de Capistrano in San Juan Capistrano, CA. The Yorba Margarita mixes Azuñia Blanco organic tequila, muddled mandarin orange, fresh mint, lime juice, agave nectar, and a splash of soda. The great Fernando will mix you up one of these for National Margarita Day. He’s a bartender that been serving people great drinks for decades. Fernando is almost as intriguing and interesting as the Ancient location itself!”
“My favorite margarita is the Margarita Organica at Javier’s. No matter the location, Newport Beach, Irvine, Las Vegas, or Cabo San Lucas, the cocktail is always delicious. It is made with Azuñia Reposado organic tequila. Every bartender always does a great job making this margarita. It is always more on the sour side, and never too sweet. The keys to the drink (aside from Azuñia tequila) are the incredible sour mix and the ritual of handshaking every margarita! Not just on National Margarita Day either!
Stephanie, Principal Owner
“My current favorite margarita is the Mango Habañero Margarita at Pacific Coast Grill in Cardiff, CA. It’s made with Azuñia Reposado Organic Tequila
and is sweet upfront followed with a little kick in the throat. It’s just how I like my cocktails! I also love the food at PCG. Seriously, everything on the menu is delicious. The ocean view is spectacular, but my favorite spot is sitting at the bar and visiting with Isaiah and the rest of the great staff! That’s where I’ll be celebrating National Margarita Day!”
Amin, Sales Manager, Inland Empire and San Diego
“After careful consideration (and a few repeat visits), I was able to narrow down my choices for National Margarita Day to just 3! First, I selected the Ultimate Margarita from the Tequila Bar at the Marriott Marquis in San Diego. It’s made with Azuñia Reposado organic tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and finished with a float of Grand Marnier. Second, I have to go with the Blood Orange Margarita served at all 5 San Diego Rockin’ Baja locations.
It mixes Azuñia Blanco organic tequila, Monnin Blood Orange liqueur, sweet and sour, and lime juice. Head north a bit from San Diego, and you’ll find number 3 of my favorites, the El Jefe, served at The Bank of Mexico in Old Town Temecula, CA. This boss-level margarita (the owner’s personal marg) combines Azuñia Reposado organic tequila, lime juice, and a float of Grand Marnier. You can’t make me pick just one!”
Josh, Sales Manager Oregon, Washington, and Idaho
“One of my favorite margaritas to enjoy is Casey’s Perfect Margarita served at On Deck Sports Bar in Portland’s Pearl District. The perfect drink for National Margarita Day is Casey’s own recipe, made with Azuñia Blanco organic tequila, simple syrup, lime and orange juices. It’s a classic margarita that is great no matter the Pacific Northwest weather.”
Jeff, Northern California Sales Manager
“My favorite margarita is from El Rey in Sacramento. The Organic Skinny Margarita is straightforward. There’s nothing fancy about it. Made with Azuñia Blanco organic tequila, agave nectar, and lime… it’s just delicious. On second thought, it’s hard to choose just one favorite! Another of my go-to margaritas is El Mixteco. This flavorful concoction is Azuñia Blanco organic tequila mixed spicy tamarind, pineapple syrup, lime juice, orange juice, and ancho chile tincture. Find it (and me) at Agave in uptown Oakland, CA on National Margarita Day.”
